Piemonte Albarossa Macchiaferro DOC, l'Armangia

The Albarossa red grape variety was created by Professor Dalmasso from a cross between Nebbiolo di Dronero and Barbera in 1938 and, Ignazio, owner and winemaker of l'Armangia decided to plant this variety at the very beginning of his adventure, he was fascinated by the potential of the grape, and the results proved him right.

Despite being little known, the Albarossa grape is now unanimously appreciated and considered to produce great red wines amongst the experts. It is a grape that produce fresh wines with good tannins therefore suited to ageing, and l’Armangia is one of the pioneers.

This wine, made only with Albarossa grape, has a deep ruby colour with purple tones changing to garnet red after a few years of ageing. The bouquet is complex, remindful of stone-fruit, strawberries, plum and almonds. Full bodied, elegant, balanced with a long finish. Albarossa wines are very versatile and can accompany many dishes, from game to roast and cheeses.
