Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Antrum, Ciavolich

A great Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, a great red wine that shows the potential of the grape when properly made. Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is possibly one of the most underrated Italian red wines, too often the name is associated to easy to drink wines, poorly made wines.

However, the grape itself has all it needs to produce outstanding wines and there are several examples, it is down to the winemakers to decide which wine to make. Ciavolich’s philosophy, like all our other producers, is to produce the very best from their grape and Antrum is the proof that not only the grape can make great wine but shows the passion Chiara and her team put into making wine.

Made from Montepulciano d’Abruzzo grapes grown in the oldest vineyards of the winery, manually harvested, the wine is left ageing for about 4 years in oak barrels before being bottled. The result is a very elegant Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, a meditation wine, a wine to sip and enjoy with friends and family, a celebration wine.

Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Antrum has a very complex nose with vanilla evolving into fruity notes, on the palate, is warm, smooth, soft tannins, velvety with a nice acidity, lively, and a never ending after finish. This wine can pair very important and rich courses, check our recipe section for ideas or mature cheeses.
